Level 4 Sail Miles for Derek
We are asking your club to create a fund raising event for Spirit of Canada where your sailors can have fun whilst raising money to support his campaign.
What is Sail Miles for Derek, how does it work?
We are asking every yacht club in Canada to run one fundraising race or cruise before the end of this season and invite participants to pay an amount (e.g.$20) per mile, to compete in that race.
For each yacht club that participates and raises at least $2,000, we will take your Yacht Club around the World on Spirit of Canada; putting your Yacht Club name on the side of the hull and carrying your club burgee on board with Derek. Derek will autograph it and return it to your club after the race. Our goal is to ask Canadian clubs to sail a total of 25,000 miles, the approximate distance that he will sail in the Vendee Globe.
What to do next
Please take a look at your sailing Calendar and see if an existing race or cruise in your schedule could act as the ideal fundraising event, perhaps it's an annual pursuit race or Turkey race.

Drop us an email at sailmiles@spiritofcanada.net, tell us when you are doing the fundraiser and how many miles you think your club will sail
Download and add your details to the club poster and flyer, then promote and encourage your members to participate
