The core of each daggerboard is of Sitka spruce that has been shaped on a CNC machine by Peter Vickers.
The daggerboards are used to prevent the yacht slipping sideways (making leeway). They are fitted in slots forward of the keel. One board is deployed according to which tack the boat is on. (The photo to the left shows the boat on starboard tack with the leeward or port board in position and the canting keel swung up to weather).
Being asymmetrical in shape, like an aircraft wing, the dagger boards provide added "lift" that helps keep the boat on course.
